Paris...what images spring to mind for you at the thought of Paris?

Is it the picturesque buildings? Walking along the Seine River? Small cafes with locals drinking coffee and wine?

If that's what you pictured then you would be right. Paris is a city full of beautiful buildings, beautiful sights and beautiful people.

Perry and I spent ten nights in this amazing city, and to say that we fell in love with it is an understatement.

The things that we saw varied in so many ways.

We visited three different museums: the Louvre (where we spent 9 hours wandering through 35,000 items!), the Musee de l'Orangerie (which contains Monet's "Water Lilies") and the Musee d'Orsay (with numerous works of Monet and Van Gogh).











 We saw Notre Dame (from the outside only). Unfortunately for now it is closed indefinitely while it continues to be repaired from the fires in April 2019.


We saw buildings that are older than the United States as a country.






We saw the Eiffel Tower and had amazing views of the city at sunset and night.





We visited the Palace and Gardens of Versailles, the former residence of King Louis the XIV, said by some to be the most beautiful palace in all of Europe.






We strolled along Parisian streets and the Seine River, exploring a city that was more beautiful than we could have ever imagined.






And we ate. We ate a lot of delicious food. Croissants. Parisian hot dogs. Crepes. All so good.



And we ended our time in...Disneyland Paris. It's true. We went. And we loved it.




While in the Disneyland Park, I saw a Walt Disney quote that I love: "All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." What a beautiful thought. We all have dreams, but how often do we have the courage to pursue them? Visiting Paris and walking its streets was a dream, and I'm so thankful that Perry and I had the opportunity to make that dream come true. What a privilege. What a dream. An opportunity that we do not take lightly. 

 What do you dream about? What thought, plan, idea makes your heart soar at the thought of doing it? What do you hope to have the courage to pursue? What steps can you take today to find that courage within yourself? I pray that today you take one of those steps. May you step out with courage towards making that dream come true. May you believe that your dreams can come true. And may we all find the courage to pursue them.

Egypt

Pharaohs, pyramids, hieroglyphics, temples and the Nile River…all are things that I remember learning about in school as a child, but this week, Perry and I had the opportunity to experience them in person. From Kenya, we traveled north to one of the most ancient civilizations on the planet. Egypt really is full of as much history as you might imagine it to have. I remember being fascinated by it as a child, but seeing something like the Great Pyramids of Giza before your eyes is truly incredible. There are three spans of history that ancient Egypt is split into: the New Kingdom (around 1550-1070 BC), the Middle Kingdom (around 2055-1550 BC) and the Old Kingdom (around 2685-2180 BC). Just think: the Old Kingdom dates back almost 5000 YEARS from today. It kind of blows my mind. Most of what we saw this week is from the Old and New Kingdoms. Rio de Janeiro

After exploring the mountains of Peru on the west coast of South America, we crossed the continent to find the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on the east coast. Our first introduction to the city came as we flew into Rio’s SDU airport where you circle through the Guanabara Bay, past Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer before landing. To say it’s impressive is an understatement. Rio is certainly full of breathtaking topography with beaches and mountains that sprawl for miles throughout the city. As a Portuguese colony, Brazil is similar to other countries in Latin America, but with its own unique Portuguese twist on history. And Rio itself has an identity and personality all its own. Its people are colorful and vibrant with a laidback beach style in the heart of a huge city. It’s honestly hard to put into words what it’s like without going there and experiencing it yourself.
